The co-owner of BitMarket, one of the Polish cryptocurrency exchanges that has now gone under, has been found dead according to local news reported via CoinTelegraph.
The BitMarket exchange was a failure upon purchase
The man’s name was Tobiasz Niemiro, and was found dead by police with head damage close to his home in Olsztyn. We’re unsure, however, if this is an attack or an accident. The Gazeta Wyborcza, a local political newspaper, claim that Niemiro could have committed suicide. That said there is no confirmation of this.
Unfortunately, this could have been linked to the collapse of the BitMarket exchange, which Niemiro had bought around a year after it went live with his partner Marcin Aszkiełowicz. However, earlier this month, the company revealed that it has a lack of liquidity and will be shutting down soon. Instead of being able to use the website’s services, anyone entering the website to buy cryptocurrency would be welcomed by the following text:
“Dear Users, We regret to inform you that due to the loss of liquidity, since 08/07/2019, Bitmarket.pl/net was forced to cease its operations. We will inform you about further steps.”
At the time, over 400 users suffered from the loss of the platform. Niemiro was then interviewed by Money.pl. There, he had said that the failure wasn’t his fault and that he is also dealing with the consequences:
“I lost everything because somebody led to the collapse of the stock exchange. Now I’m losing face and good name for which I’ve worked all my life. I am one of the victims.”
