The non-fungible token market continues attracting businesses, institutions and investors despite suffering from the recent market downturn, which has left many NFTs falling 50% in their floor prices. Folgers is the latest luxury brand to showcase interest in investing in NFTs.
Folgers Enters The Metaverse
In a July 5 blog post, Mike Kondoudis, an accredited intellectual property attorney, confirmed that the luxury coffee brand “Folgers” filed two trademark applications with United States Patents and Trademark Office related to non-fungible tokens on June 30, 2023.

Established in 1,850, Folgers is a luxury coffee company offering a brand of ground, instant, and single-use pod coffee produced and sold in the United States, with additional distribution in Asia, Canada and Mexico. The Forgers Co is part of the food and beverage giant “The J.M. Smucker Company.”
Based on the data submitted, Forgers seeks to trademark its popular brand “Café Bustelo” and use it to launch digital assets. In its first application, the company plans to create downloadable audio and video files featuring artwork and text in the field of coffee.
What Are Its Plans?
Moreover, the company plans to launch downloadable multimedia files containing artworks, text, audio and video relating to coffee authenticated by non-fungible tokens. It also intends to create downloadable computer game software featuring virtual goods like virtual coffee.
In its second application, the luxury coffee brand plans to offer entertainment services, including non-downloadable virtual coffee for use in virtual environments. Forgers joins a rapidly growing list of coffee giants exploring the metaverse, a virtual space designed for community-gathering that stands to offer new marketing opportunities for brands.
In September 2022, the Seattle-based coffee roaster “Starbucks” announced its foray into Web3, dubbed Starbucks Odyssey, a blockchain-powered loyalty program for Starbucks customers and employees. The company aims to deepen its relationship with its customers with the help of secure Web3 technology.
