Snoop Dogg and Eminem to perform BAYC-themed song at MTV Music Awards

Eminem and Snoop are set to perform a song with the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) theme at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs). The rap icons have shown great interest in non-fungible tokens, and the latest effort will see the BAYC NFTs promoted to an even larger audience.

The performance by Eminem and Snoop Dogg has been inspired by the Otherside metaverse and the Bored Ape Yacht Club BAYC NFTs. Otherside is a project created in partnership with Yuga Labs and Animoca Brands, an NFT investment and gaming company.

The two rappers have partnered with Yuga Labs to give the Otherside metaverse exposure by transforming the VMA stage into a style inspired by the metaverse while performing the “From the D 2 the LBC” single. However, the exact details of the performance have yet to be shared.

The move is aimed at bringing the music industry into the metaverse. The MTV VMAs also have an award category known as “Best Metaverse Performance. Some nominees in this category include Justin Bieber, Twenty One Pilots, and Rift Tour.

The VMAs are bringing the metaverse to music fans and hoping to increase the viewership numbers. In 2011, the VMAs peaked at viewership of 12.4 million viewers. However, since then, the awards have recorded a notable decline in viewers.

Otherside is an interoperable metaverse that is currently in the beta phase. Otherdeed NFTs represent the ownership of digital plots of land within this metaverse. CryptoSlam shows that Otherdeed NFT sales have already hit $1 billion. $23.5 million of the sales volumes were within the past 30 days.

Otherside opened its metaverse to users for the first time on July 16. At the time, 4500 users could go into the metaverse and experience the digital world. However, the metaverse was only open to select third-party developers and holders of Otherside NFTs.

Snoop Dogg & Eminem are BYAC holders

Eminem and Snoop Dogg both hold BAYC NFTs and their new single features content from the BAYC NFT collection. In December last year, Eminem bought a hip hop clothed BAYC for 123.45 ETH. He also holds 28 other NFTs through “Shady Holdings.”

On the other hand, Snoop Dogg is an active member of the NFT community. On December 2022, he partnered with The Sandbox to release “The Doggies” NFT collection and bought a Bored Ape at the time.
