HTC, one of the largest smartphone manufacturers, has unveiled a “Viverse” phone that will support the metaverse and support cryptocurrencies and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

HTC unveils a metaverse phone

HTC Desire 22 Pro will be among the first phones entering the Web3 world. The phone will come with installed applications allowing users to access metaverse content. The phone will also have crypto and NFT functionality.

One of the top features of the phone is the Viverse app. The app will allow users to buy NFTs on a digital marketplace while creating their own virtual space. This is not the first crypto-inspired phone launched by HTC. Like the other phones, the Desire 22 Pro will also have an in-built crypto wallet supporting Ethereum and other assets based on the Polygon blockchain.

This device will also be compatible with the HTC lightweight Vive Flow VR headset. It will also come with a Vive Manager app that allows them to create and manage their VR hardware.

Shen Ye, the Global Head of Product at HTC, said that this new phone “opens new immersive experiences as the perfect partner for VIVE Flo – whether it’s meeting colleagues in VR or enjoying your own private cinema anywhere you are.”

The HTC Desire 22 Pro is a “powerful midrange device.” It does not have the top-tier features that outrank some of the best-performing iPhone and Android smartphones. The device also features a 6.6-inch Gorilla Glass display, with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 5G and 8GB RAM with 128GB storage.

HTC’s support for crypto phones

HTC was among the first phones that adopted cryptocurrency technology. In 2018, HTC launched the Exodus 1 smartphone that comes with an in-built cryptocurrency hardware wallet and supports running an entire Bitcoin node.

The second crypto-based phone that was also launched is the Exodus 1s. When the phone was being launched, the chief decentralized officer at the company, Phil Chen, said that the phone would help the company achieve its vision. Chen also said that future demand would be for phones to have a Bitcoin node or blockchain nodes.
