During a recent golf tournament in Las Vegas, participants displayed their golfing skills while contributing to an important cause—raising over $150,000 for problem gambling research. The event, the 25th annual Golf Classic, was sponsored by the American Gaming Association and the Association of Gaming Equipment Manufacturers. The funds raised were directed to the International Center for Responsible Gaming (ICRG).
The President of the ICRG Highlights a Gap in US Support for Responsible Gaming Research
Dave Kubajak, the senior vice president of sales at JCM Global, humorously noted that no one needs a mulligan at this tournament. While some US states allocate a portion of their gambling tax revenues to responsible gaming messages, none of these funds go directly to the ICRG.
The Golf Classic, held at MGM Resorts’ Shadow Creek Golf Course, attracted 116 golfers, including representatives from sports betting and traditional casino sectors among its 28 sponsors. The event also featured a charity raffle and a silent auction, offering sports memorabilia and Las Vegas experiences.

These studies typically span 2-3 years, though sometimes donors directly fund individual projects. Currently, there are a record 30 research projects underway, with four focusing on gambling among young adults, a major concern.
