Watford FC, a football club based in Hertfordshire, will be repping the Bitcoin logo on their jerseys this year in a partnership with Sportsbet.io – a sports betting brand that settles in cryptocurrencies as well as fiat.
The goal here is to bring awareness to Bitcoin, and “educate the public on the benefits” of buying cryptocurrencies.
Sportsbet is the group’s main sponsor and works with other teams such as the Hornets.
Sportsbet.io’s head of marketing, Justin Le Brocque, stated that “The crypto community have been hugely supportive of us since we began, so putting the Bitcoin logo on the sleeve felt like a fun way to give something back while also showing them our support.”
The entire partnership is the result of a crowdfunding campaign that will benefit anyone who already holds Bitcoin. Those that do can enjoy unique perks and other benefits “granted to Watford FC sponsors.”
“Some of the biggest challenges we and others like us face is raising awareness, dispelling common myths around cryptos and educating the public on the advantages and opportunities presented by cryptocurrencies,” continues Brocque. “Our partnership with Watford marks a major disruption in the world of traditional sports sponsorship, and by adding the Bitcoin logo we hope this world’s first partnership will create even more buzz around cryptocurrencies.”
The Hornets’ CEO and Chairman also shared some thoughts, stating that the Bitcoin logo on “a Premier League shirt” challenges the status quo.
