Recently, the Responsible Gambling Affiliate Association (RGAA) revealed its plans to initiate a new membership program during the SBC Summit North America. This program is designed to enhance the unity among affiliate companies and continue the emphasis on consumer protection.

The RGAA, established in 2023 by a consortium of industry leaders such as Better Collective, Catena Media, FairPlay Sports Media, Gambling.com, Spotlight Sports Group, and XLMedia, has consistently promoted responsible marketing practices and integrity. The association’s recent move aims to expand its membership base to further bolster its influence and continue the goals set by its founding members. New affiliates joining the RGAA will gain access to extensive resources including updates on regulations, educational materials, and tools that empower their businesses in the gaming industry.

Max Bichsel, the Chair of RGAA, highlighted the significance of this initiative, stating, the launch of the membership program denotes a very important juncture for the RGAA as they continue to advocate for responsible gambling and fair regulation within the industry. He also stated that with every new member, their commitment to integrity and consumer protection is reinforced, ensuring these principles remain central to the gambling sector.

The launch of our membership program is a pivotal moment for the RGAA as we strive to promote responsible gambling practices and advocate for equitable regulation in the industry. With each new affiliate that joins our ranks, we fortify our efforts to ensure that integrity and consumer protection remain at the forefront of our sector.

Moreover, all members are required to adhere to stringent responsible gambling standards, which include an annual compliance audit. Membership also grants the prestigious RGAA Standards of Excellence certification, reflecting their commitment to uphold responsible gambling marketing and advertising practices, and to protect consumer interests.

Rasmus Sojmark, CEO and founder of SBC Gaming, expressed his excitement about the ongoing collaboration, noting, “Last year’s Summit was a tremendous success, uniting industry leaders across North America who were keen to share ideas, collaborate, and drive significant change. I am confident this year will be equally impactful, and our partnership with RGAA will enhance the dialogue on responsible gambling practices and player protection.”

Marc Pedersen, CEO of North America for Better Collective and an RGAA board member, also emphasized the shared commitment to player safety propagated by the RGAA. He pointed out that Better Collective’s long-standing presence in the industry—spanning over two decades—positions it well to contribute to RGAA’s objectives. Pedersen anticipates a growing number of new members will join the association as it continues to work towards enhancing safer gambling practices and protecting players.

About Responsible Gambling

Responsible gambling is a crucial aspect of the online gambling industry, designed to safeguard players and promote a sustainable gambling environment. It encompasses various practices and policies that online casinos and gambling platforms implement to prevent gambling-related problems. These measures include setting deposit limits, offering self-exclusion tools, and providing clear information about the odds of games. The objective is to ensure that gambling remains a recreational activity and does not lead to addiction or financial hardship. Online platforms are particularly positioned to deploy sophisticated tools that monitor gambling behavior in real-time and can offer direct interventions when risky behaviors are detected.

Moreover, responsible gambling also involves educating players about the risks associated with gambling and ways to gamble safely. Online gambling sites often provide resources, such as links to support organizations, tips for gambling responsibly, and self-assessment tools to help individuals recognize potential gambling problems.

As we have reported before, millions of people worldwide are impacted by gambling addiction, a serious public health concern. Research featured in the Journal of Behavioral Addictions suggests that severe gambling problems affect about 1% to 3% of the global population. However, these numbers can vary based on regional factors and the availability of gambling opportunities, both physical and online. In regions where gambling is more widespread, such as Australia and Singapore, problem gambling rates range from 0.5% to 7.6%. The repercussions of this addiction are profound, leading to significant personal and social issues. Individuals suffering from gambling addiction may face financial ruin, the deterioration of personal relationships, and mental health challenges, including depression and anxiety.
