Currently, there are more than 34,000 BRC-20 token variations in circulation.

Though the BRC-20 token appears to be making the headlines recently, leading crypto wallets such as MetaMask and Trust Wallet haven’t yet integrated the coin on their networks.

However, in a recent development, a self-custodian crypto wallet integrated BRC-20 in-wallet swaps for users to leverage.

Bitkeep To Support BRC-20 Coins On Its Platform

On Wednesday, June, Bitkeep announced their integration of BRC-20 tokens on the Bitcoin platform. This integration will enable users to view, rank, and transact using non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and BRC-20 coins.

It’s worth noting that the crypto wallet developers have also announced that users will soon be able to perform BRC-20 in-wallet swaps.

Bitkeep isn’t the only wallet to support BRC-20 tokens on its platform. On April 24th, UniSat Wallet announced that it would support the BRC-20 token on its platform, making it the first wallet to integrate the Bitcoin token.

In May, the crypto exchange OKX announced its integration of the tokens and NFTs on the OKX Wallet App. Then, other wallets followed suit, including Wasabi Wallet, BlueWallet, and Electrum Wallet.

Also, since January, other notable centralized and decentralized exchanges and wallets have enlisted BRC-20 assets on their networks. These exchanges include Huobi Global, CoinEx, Kraken Crypto Exchange, Bitcoin.com, and 702 Exchange Crypto Wallet.

However, the coin hasn’t been listed on other notable crypto wallets like MetaMask and Trust Wallet. The Trust Wallet team posted about it on their blog, stating the benefits of the token but also noting that it is an experimental project that requires additional research before adoption.

Notwithstanding the wide adoption, the BRC-20 token is currently trading at a market capitalization of $176.6 million. This is a 67% decline from the All-time-high price in May when the hype for it was at its peak.

What Is The BRC Token?

BRC-20 is a novel token standard operating on the Bitcoin Blockchain. The coin was developed as an experiment to enable users to mint and transfer NFTs through the Bitcoin network.

It’s worth noting that Ethereum’s ERC-20 tokens inspired the concept of the BRC-20 token. However, it comes with distinct features and mechanics.

BRC-20 was created in March by an anonymous blockchain developer named DOMO. He created the coin after the Ordinals protocol was deployed on the Bitcoin network in January 2023.

Trust Wallet explained all these in a blog post on their website. Since deploying the BRC-20 token standard, more than 34,600 meme coins have been created based on it.

Some notable meme coin types include Ordi, Wojak Coin, Pepe, Piza, OXBT, BISO, OICH, BAYC, and HASH tokens. Bitkeep explained, in a post, those BRC-20 tokens use Ordinals and Inscriptions to mint new assets on the Bitcoin network.
