Luxury sportswear brand ‘Nike’ has announced ready plans to launch a new non-fungible token sneaker collection this week. The luxury sportswear brand, through its digital asset incubation studio “RTFKT,” has partnered with Fortnite to launch the upcoming NFT collection.

Nike Teases New NFT Sneakers

In a June 16 blog post, Nike hinted at launching a new collection of sneaker NFTs exclusively on Fortnite. The highly anticipated potential release of sneaker NFTs has sparked excitement among sports fans, game lovers, and crypto users.

According to Nike’s teaser announcement, the much anticipated NFT drop dubbed “Ultimate Sneaker” will start minting on June 20 in the massively popular online game “Fortnite.” Launched in 2017, Fortnite is an online video game developed by video gaming giant Epic Games.

The integration presents a massive opportunity for Web3 adoption, with Fortnite boasting over 242.9 million active players in the past 30 days. The involvement of Nike’s .Swoosh logo and Epic Games’ recent positive stance towards NFT gaming suggest an exciting fusion between virtual sneakers and digital experiences in the NFT gaming world.

Even though the information shared is scarce, Nike might have developed its upcoming NFT-related game using Fortnite Creative 2.0. This mode enables users to create virtual island game maps using Fortnite assets, resembling ROBLOX’s game creation feature.

Nike Onboards More Traditional Gaming

In recent weeks, the sports apparel brand “Nike” through its digital assets unit “RTFKT” have been pursuing entry into the traditional gaming space. Earlier this month, Nike partnered with EA Sports, another traditional gaming hub, to launch an NFT project.

EA Sports is a division of game publisher Electronic Arts, home to game franchises like Apex Legends, The Sims, and Battlefield. EA Sports has released sports games with the Madden NFL, FIFA, NHL, and NASCAR brands since its inception in 1991.

In the meantime, it remains uncertain whether NFTs will be involved in the upcoming Airphoria collection. But the involvement of Nike’s .Swoosh logo hints at their potential inclusion. Nike has promised to provide comprehensive information this week.
