Cryptocurrencies continue to make a wave across the sporting sector. Mac Jones, a rookie quarterback star for New England Patriots, will gift Bitcoin to his teammates during this holiday season.

The 23-year old said, “I’ve been studying Bitcoin for a while now. This year I just knew I had to give some Bitcoin to my teammates.”

Man Jones gives out BTC as a Christmas gift

Jones stated that he reached out to Bitcoin Magazine through its CEO, David Bailey, to discover how to issue Bitcoin as a gift. With this gift, 12 of his teammates will become Bitcoin holders for the first time.

These teammates include Alex Redmond, David Andrews, Isaiah Wynn, James Ferentz, Justin Herron, Mike Onwenu, Shaq Mason, Ted Karras, Trent Brown, Will Sherman, Yasir Durant and Yodny Cajuste.

Commenting on this, Bailey noted that he was eager to support Jones in his new initiative. “Our mission is to make Bitcoin the de facto money of humanity, which means blending it into our popular culture. Bitcoin is for everyone, but the brave, optimistic, and forward-thinking people who see the future are the ones adopting Bitcoin and sharing this important message,” he added.

Jones and his teammates will receive Bitcoin through the Swan Black Card. This card is a new feature that allows users to claim their Bitcoin holdings directly using a concierge service.

The CEO of Swan Bitcoin, Cory Klippsten, stated that Swan’s mission was to increase the number of people that held Bitcoin. Moreover, the firm wanted to make people know about this asset class. As such, the organization noted that its partnership with Jones and his teammates was a strategic one, as it would allow its concierge team to be part of the Bitcoin journey for New England Patriots.

Crypto dominance in the sports sector rises

Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, in general, are increasingly becoming popular in the sporting sector. The trend has especially become popular in the NFL. Jones is not the only NFL player to show interest in Bitcoin.

Last month, Aaron Rodgers, a quarterback player for Green Bay Packers, announced that he would like to receive part of his salary in Bitcoin. The initiative would be made possible through a partnership with Cash App.

Odell Beckham Jr, a receiver for Los Angeles Rams, also partnered with Cash App to receive his entire salary in Bitcoin. The two deals show that crypto adoption is increasingly popular in the sports sector.
