The Internet of Services Foundation (IOST) has announced its partnership with the Institute for the Future (IFF) at the University of Nicosia (UNIC). The partnership seeks to support females who want to venture into the blockchain space.
The two institutions will offer a scholarship program that will support Women in Blockchain. The successful applicants will have a chance to enrol in UNIC’s lucrative Masters program in blockchain.
Scholarship in Blockchain and Digital Currency
The partnership will launch two scholarships over two years. Moreover, it will also have an option that allows the number of students sponsored through the initiative to increase annually.
The program in question is the MSc in Blockchain and Digital Currency. This program will help foster the next generation of female leaders in the blockchain space. The objectives of the scholarship are also in line with the IFF’s mission, which is to “educate leaders, develop knowledge and build communities to help society prepare for a future shaped by transformative technologies.”
Part of the agreement also stated that the two parties will be open to the possibility of working together in other projects of mutual interest, such as research and development in the area of Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLT).
UNIC diving deeper into blockchain
The Director of Business Development at the Internet of Services Foundation, Kudakwashe Samkange, spoke of this partnership, stating, “The strategic alliance with the University of Nicosia allows us to further engage in blockchain education and research, which we believe are crucial steps towards wider adoption of blockchain technology.”
Samkange also stated that the institution can attract more talented individuals in the blockchain space by supporting such initiatives.
“The scholarship program will contribute to a more inclusive blockchain space, in which there is generally a very low representation of women. We would like to be part of resolving that,” he added.
UNIC is already making headlines in regards to crypto and blockchain technology. It became the first university globally to accept Bitcoin for tuition fees. It is also the first university to offer a degree program in the blockchain. The program has attracted around 65,000 students from more than 110 countries.
The university is also looking towards the metaverse with the recent launch of the UNIC Open Metaverse Initiative. This initiative will focus on the metaverse’s academic, research, and policy aspects.
Earlier in the year, UNIC launched a robust framework for calculating the market capitalization of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The framework was to help realize NFT valuations.
