A popular F1 team, McLaren Racing, decided to surprise fans around the world yesterday by revealing a brand new look for its cars, a mere week before the start of the Grand Prix. The team, currently in Singapore, where it awaits the start of the Grand Prix, revealed that its racing cars are now going to have a fully crypto-inspired look.
Apparently, the decision comes as part of the team’s partnership with a popular crypto exchange, OKX, and the cars will keep the look for both the Singapore Grand Prix and Japanese Grand Prix this year. The races were previously discontinued in Asia in 2019, and now that they are making a comeback, there is bound to be a great amount of popularity and interest from racing fans worldwide.
So naturally, OKX and McLaren plan to use this opportunity to attract the eyes of as many people as possible.
A brand-new, crypto-decorated F1 car
The decorations are quite interesting, with the livery featuring McLaren’s Fluro Papaya colorway, with neon pink embellishments on top. In addition, the car also features dynamic, cyberpunk-looking engine illustrations. According to the team, the design was inspired by the new, emerging technologies that have found much approval and interest in the region, including digital currencies and Web3.
Haider Rafique, the Chief Marketing Officer at OKX, commented on the new design, noting that it was incredibly fun for the exchange to participate in co-designing of these markings with McLaren and that the new livery serves as a signal of the arrival of new technologies. The look is very cyberpunk overall, and it symbolizes the impact of the upcoming Web 3.0 on popular culture, as Rafique noted.
Apart from that, OKX also noted that it wishes to guide McLaren in revolutionizing the team’s metaverse and digital collectible strategy. This is a nod to McLaren’s statement from last year, when it said that there are plans to create an NFT platform running on the Tezos network.
On another occasion, the team also stated that it wished to create and mint NFTs of its supercars, and for that purpose, it partnered with a metaverse project InfiniteWorld.
It goes without saying that McLaren Racing is a great supporter of emerging technologies and that it sees great potential in the crypto industry. It is far from being the first racing team to decorate its cars with cryptocurrency symbols, but it is always encouraging for crypto communities to see more teams get involved with digital currencies.
