The net worth of Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has surged more than 54% this year to reach about $851 million, said blockchain analytics firm Arkham.
Most of Buterin’s wealth comes from the 244,001.02 ETH he owns, while several strategic investments in other crypto projects have also contributed.
Vitalik Buterin is one of the most prominent figures on Crypto Twitter – credited with creating Ethereum, and active in crypto for well over a decade.

The Birth Of Ethereum
Buterin’s journey in the crypto space started back in 2011 when he co-founded Bitcoin Magazine. He then went on to propose Ethereum in 2013 to address some of the limitations of the Bitcoin network.
During the launch of Ethereum in 2015, Buterin received a substantial portion of ETH’s supply. These holdings allowed him to temporarily achieve billionaire status when ETH broke above $3,000 during the 2021 bull run. Thereafter, his net worth plunged 75% due to the market’s downturn in 2022.
Buterin’s holdings outside of ETH include StarkNet, as well as other tokens from Kyber Network (KNC) and Wrapped Ethereum (WETH). The Ethereum co-founder owns 869,500 KNCL and 196.42 WETH, according to Arkham’s report.
He also holds 101 million THE tokens. Some of his smaller noteworthy holdings include $1,290 worth of Tornado.Cash’s TORN token. Buterin also possesses 6.345 million Shiba Inu (SHIB), the report added.
Vitalik Buterin Still The Largest Holder Of ETH
Buterin stated in 2018 that he has never held more than 0.9% of ETH’s supply, and Arkham’s report confirms that his ETH balance has never significantly exceeded 0.9%.
His holdings did, however, reach a peak of 0.91% in 2015. They have since been decreasing annually.
I never personally held more than ~0.9% of all ETH, and my net worth never came close to $1b. Also, I'm pretty sure there are no criminal laws against pre-mining.

Nevertheless, Buterin remains the largest individual holder of ETH. Presale investor Rain Lohmus holds more ETH than Buterin, but has lost the private keys to the wallet with the tokens.
