Brave Browser, a cryptocurrency-based internet browser from Brandon Eich, just passed out every other browser on the Google Play store in Japan.
This news comes to us via a Reddit post from this September 8, and it’s the first time that Brave has overcome browsers like Firefox and Chrome in the country. As of this writing, the application is sitting at number 10, with Firefox, the closest competing application, sitting at 14.
On top of this, Brave saw a download count of 2 million last month, beating out Firefox’s 553,000 downloads.
As you may know, Brave provides its users with Bitcoin wallets for good measure, and it stores BAT tokens that allow users to subvert advertisements and trackers among other things that make for a less than ideal browsing experience.
Other websites like Reddit or Twitter tie directly into Brave browser, ensuring users can tip creators with BAT at the simple click of a button. It’s grown a ton since then, hitting milestones like 10 million downloads on Google Play in the United States earlier this year, among other achievements.
What’s great about Brave is it is an accessible introduction into cryptocurrency trading in that it integrates a wallet into a familiar setting – a web browser – and tasks users with going from there.
