The Solana Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to the decentralization, adoption, and security of the Solana network, has recently announced a groundbreaking development. The Solana blockchain has become the first Layer 1 blockchain to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) with the help of a ChatGPT plugin developed by Solana Labs.
The ChatGPT plugin is now available for download from GitHub. It serves as a reference for demonstrating how AI can enhance the understanding of Solana data and protocols. It allows users to gain insights into Solana’s computing infrastructure and DeFi projects. Users can use the plugin to buy NFTs, transfer tokens, inspect transactions, and interpret public account data. Additionally, the plugin can find NFT collections based on their floor price. By integrating AI capabilities, Solana aims to make its network more user-friendly and understandable.
“Every developer building consumer-oriented apps should be thinking about how their app is going to be interacted with through an AI model because this is a new paradigm for telling computers what to do,” said Anatoly Yakovenko, Solana co-founder and Solana Labs CEO.
Solana possesses key characteristics that make it an ideal platform for AI integration. The platform offers fast throughput, near-zero costs, and a user-friendly design. Therefore, Solana is able to provide a seamless and efficient environment for AI models to interact with the network. While still in its early stages, Solana has become a hub for AI-related activities within the Web3 ecosystem.

Supporting AI Innovation: The Solana Foundation Increases its Support for AI initiatives
In addition to the integration of AI, the Solana Foundation has expanded its AI-focused strategic grants program from an initial $1 million to a substantial $10 million. The grant program aims to advance the integration and usage of AI on the Solana network. The program encourages the exploration of new use cases for machine learning models interacting with Solana protocols in safe and interpretable ways. Already receiving 50 applications, the rolling grants program welcomes both new and existing projects to apply.
Update: The fund supporting projects at the intersection of the @Solana blockchain and AI has been expanded to $10 million.

To further support this initiative, the Solana Foundation has also introduced an AI accelerator program specifically for university students. This program will foster experimentation with blockchain and AI by providing a cohort for students to collaborate on innovative projects. As a result of this program, the AI cohort has already developed the “Ask Solana U chatbot’. The chatbot assists users with Solana development-related questions and helps them find the appropriate Solana documentation. Another project, Solana Audits AI, has been created to enhance the security of Solana-based programs.
More Projects Leveraging AI on Solana, Pioneering Advancements in the Ecosystem
Several projects within the Solana ecosystem have already begun leveraging AI technology. Hivemapper introduced AI trainers, which utilize AI to convert real-world imagery into high-quality digital maps, achieving consensus on 500,000 objects through 5.7 million AI training reviews. Context has developed AI-powered chatbots focused on Solana and over 30 Solana ecosystem projects. The MarginFi team has also launched the Omni chatbot, which answers questions about Solana and various Solana-based projects. Such projects include Meteora, Jupiter, Tensor, Mango Markets, Zeta, Kamino, Lido, Orca, and more.
The integration of AI with Solana demonstrates the crypto industry’s embrace of this transformative technology. Since the introduction of ChatGPT in late 2022, generative AI has gained immense popularity worldwide. In 2023, there will be a noticeable shift in venture capital funding from digital asset projects toward AI. The cryptocurrency community and industry have embraced AI, with prominent figures like Brian Armstrong, the C.E.O. of Coinbase, advocating for its development.
While Solana is the first layer 1 blockchain to integrate AI, it is not the only digital asset company to embrace this technology. In April, Binance Academy launched a ChatGPT-powered AI chatbot, further illustrating the growing adoption of AI within the industry.
