Solaire Resort North is gearing up to launch a state-of-the-art integrated resort that promises top-notch gaming, entertainment, and hospitality. Nestled in Quezon City, Philippines, this resort is set to welcome visitors on Saturday, May 25, 2024.

However, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte has made it clear that city hall employees and officials are not allowed to gamble at the new casino. This announcement was made public ahead of the resort’s opening.

Mayor Belmonte’s stance on this issue was further highlighted during her participation in the 1st International Conference on Responsible Gambling and Gaming Addiction. The event was held earlier this week at Novotel Araneta in Cubao, Quezon City, as reported by the Manila Standard.

Belmonte explained that the local government has worked closely with Solaire Resort North to create a sophisticated system designed to prevent city employees from entering the casino floor. This system utilizes photographs of each city hall official and employee, ensuring that their identities are recognized and access is restricted.

To counter any attempts at evasion, Belmonte noted that the system is highly advanced and capable of detecting faces even if individuals wear disguises such as wigs, masks, or hats. Despite these restrictions, city employees will still be able to enjoy the resort’s other amenities, including the hotel, dining outlets, and entertainment options, but gambling will remain off-limits.

In her own words, Belmonte stated:

Even if one wears a wig, a mask or a hat, one’s face can still be detected using a very sophisticated system. We will not embarrass anyone here.

About Quezon City

Quezon City, located in the Philippines, is one of the largest and most populous cities in the country. Established in 1939, it served as the capital of the Philippines from 1948 to 1976. The city is a significant hub for education, commerce, and government, hosting various universities, businesses, and government offices. It is known for its vibrant culture, diverse population, and numerous landmarks, including the Quezon Memorial Circle and the Araneta Coliseum. As part of Metro Manila, Quezon City plays a crucial role in the region’s economic and social dynamics, continually evolving and expanding to accommodate its growing population and infrastructure needs.

Gambling in the Philippines

The ban impacts roughly 19,000 city employees, a small portion of Quezon City’s over 3 million residents. Unlike many Asian countries where gambling is restricted to foreigners, the Philippines allows local participation in gambling activities. In fact, it is a widespread and culturally ingrained activity, with both legal and illegal forms thriving across the country.

The nation allows various types of gambling, including casinos, lotteries, cockfighting, and online gaming, which are regulated by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR). Unlike many of its Asian neighbors, the Philippines permits its citizens to participate in these activities, not just foreign tourists. This liberal stance has contributed to a booming gambling industry, attracting significant local and international investments. However, the growing accessibility and popularity of gambling have raised concerns about potential increases in problem gambling and its associated social issues. As the industry expands, there is an ongoing debate about balancing economic benefits with the need for responsible gambling measures to protect vulnerable populations.

World-Class Entertainment

Solaire Resort North, with its imminent opening, aims to provide world-class entertainment. The casino will feature over 160 live dealer table games and more than 2,600 slot machines, spread across four levels of gaming space.

This major development is the second venture for Bloomberry Resorts in the region. Solaire Resort North complements the company’s expansion strategy, adding to their existing Solaire Resort and Casino in Entertainment City.
