On Tuesday, President Joe Biden converged with a team of Tech firm leaders in a debate to discuss the risks of AI tools. He further emphasized that national security is a priority and should be considered by AI experts.

Among those convened were industry leaders, experts in Artificial Intelligence, and researchers. But apart from the United States, other world leaders are placing a weighty bill on the AI sector to ensure strict regulations.

“AI Products Pose a Risk to the US Fed,” Says Biden

The Joe Biden administration has constantly looked for ways to regulate the Artificial Intelligence industry.

On Tuesday, the president convened eight leaders of significant Tech Firms in the United States in a debate where he discussed the risks of implementing AI products to the world at large.

During the debate called “Risks and Enormous Promises” of AI, he explained that the next decade would experience more technological advancement than in the past fifty years.

According to the report, the President recognized the vast investment opportunities provided by the AI sector. He noted the rapid change which the industry has brought into the world in the last few years. However, President Biden also pointed out that while AI products can teach users, they can also mislead them.

Biden also pointed out to reporters before the meeting that his government is fighting hard to protect the US’s society, economy, and national security, as these are very prone areas to AI exploitation.

He highlighted that social media has already shown how much damage technology can cause if not properly regulated. Therefore, the government and citizens should pay keen attention to seizing opportunities and curbing the risks of artificial intelligence.

A report from The Associated Press highlighted that among the attendees of the closed-door meeting were Jim Steyer, CEO and Founder of Common-Sense Media; Joy Buolamwin, CEO of the Algorithmic Justice League; Tristan Harris, the Founder and executive director of Center for Human Technology (CHT), among others. Also, California Governor, Gavin Newsom, was in attendance.

Interestingly, the United States President isn’t alone in regulating the AI industry. Already, European lawmakers have signed into the bill a set of extensive guidelines for AI.

Joe Biden’s Moves on 2024 Reelection Campaign

Joe Biden’s meeting with the Tech executives came amid his efforts to rally funds for his 2024 reelection bid from billionaires in the Tech industry.

In his visit to Silicon Valley on Monday, the President attended two fundraising events, even one co-hosted by entrepreneur Reid Hoffman, who has multiple connections with the AI sector.

Hoffman was one of the first investors in OpenAI, the developers of the ChatGPT software. Also, he is one of the board members of some tech firms, like Microsoft, that are huge investors in Artificial Intelligence.
