Multinational tech giant Microsoft has begun testing a new non-custodial crypto wallet for its Microsoft Edge web extension. The upcoming Ethereum-powered web3 wallet will allow users to send and receive crypto and non-fungible tokens.

Microsoft Launches New Wallet For Crypto And NFTs

In a March 17 blog post, Albacore, an on-chain sleuth who first spotted the Edge Crypto Wallet, explained that the new wallet features public keys that can be shared with others to receive payments, and private keys can be used to authorize transactions.

According to Albacore, the new web3 wallet is in a limited test phase and is currently available to Microsoft Edge Channel users. While commenting about the web3 wallet during an onboarding process, Microsoft remarked:

“This is a non-custodial wallet, meaning you are in complete control of your funds. We will not have access to your password and recovery key. It is embedded in Edge, making it easy to use without installing any extension.”

Microsoft Edge Crypto Wallet Overview

Microsoft has partnered with Consensys, the leading software company that develops decentralized solutions on the Ethereum blockchain, to launch a new crypto wallet. Similar to other crypto wallets, Microsoft Edge’s Crypto Wallet will support multiple Ethereum accounts.

Furthermore, the Microsoft Edge crypto wallet will feature strong security features, including an alphanumeric password and QR scan functionality. The wallet will require users to provide a strong 12-word recovery phrase if they forget their password.

The new wallet will allow users to swap Ethereum, Dai Stablecoin, Uniswap, USD Coin, Tether Coin, and NFTs. Microsoft Edge Crypto Wallet will feature a news feed option on the dashboard, allowing users to track the latest news in NFT and Crypto.

In the meantime, Microsoft encourages crypto users to test its first Web3 wallet and provide candid feedback along the journey. The first testers will have an opportunity to shape their foray into cryptocurrencies and NFTs.
