Kendall Jenner, Kate Moss, J Balvin, Jeff Koons, and Baz Luhrmann are among a group of celebrities who have joined the judging panel for an upcoming digital art competition. The selected artworks will be incorporated into a non-fungible token (NFT) collection, the proceeds from which will go to The Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR).

The competition, organized through the digital platform Prospect 100, invites creators globally to submit original digital backgrounds. These will be reviewed and the top 100 selected will be integrated with amfAR’s pre-designed characters to create the organization’s inaugural NFT collection. The funds raised from the sale of this collection, whose date has yet to be disclosed, will be directed towards AIDS research.

The submitted designs will initially be open to a public vote via Prospect 100. The project’s celebrity jury will then choose the finalists, considering the originality, significance, and congruity of each piece with the aesthetic of amfAR’s existing characters.

Not the first venture into NFTs

This initiative signifies a first-time venture into the NFT world for some panel members, while others have previous experience. For instance, Jeff Koons, the world’s highest-earning living artist, introduced his first NFT collection, Moon Phases, last year. Each piece from this collection corresponds to a physical sculpture set to be sent to the moon later this year using an autonomous lunar lander.

Nor is this amFAR’s first venture into the world of NFTs. In 2021, at the 27th amFAR gala at the Cannes film festival in the south of France, the world’s second highest-selling living artist, Sacha Jafri, presented a presale of his open edition NFT.

Supermodel Kate Moss introduced her series of short video NFTs in early 2021. However, Kendall Jenner and filmmaker Baz Luhrmann have not previously publicized any associations with this burgeoning blockchain-based medium.

The jury panel will also include Alexandre “Millinsky” Daillance, the French designer and Prospect 100 co-founder, Russian model and philanthropist Natalia Vodianova, South Korean DJ Peggy Gou, American model Alton Mason, and Italian designer Francesco Ragazzi.

Previously, Prospect 100 has collaborated with the Ukrainian government for a benefit competition in support of the country amidst the Russian invasion. According to Daillance, the intent behind each competition is to progressively elevate the status of the judging panel.

Daillance stressed that each Prospect 100 jury needs to embody modernity, glamour, and relevance. He feels that the inclusion of esteemed artists like Koons and famous personalities like Moss fulfills these criteria. He expressed gratitude towards musicians Balvin and Gou, as well as Luhrmann, for their contributions and support in helping raise funds for amfAR’s commendable cause.
