The latest model has a pre-order price of $450, compared with an original retail price of $1,000 for Solana Saga.

Those placing their pre-orders will have to wait until early 2025 for delivery of the phones. Solana Mobile has raised $45M from pre-order sales.

Smartphone With Crypto-Specific Features

Solana mobile phones have incorporated crypto-specific features. The second phone will have custom features supporting the purchase, sale, and holding of cryptocurrencies created on the Solana blockchain.

While speaking to CoinDesk, Solana’s co-founder, Anatoly Yakovenko, said that it was tough trying to compete with Apple and Google on features including cameras. Because of that, Solana focused on a producing a phone with Web3 features that are absent on other devices.

Yakovenko believes that as the popularity of Solana’s phones grow, developers might be enticed to build games for it. He added that the phone’s app marketplace will not charge developers any fees.
