BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, recently restructured its proposal for a spot Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF), aiming to facilitate the involvement of Wall Street banks. The revised application introduces a novel redemption model allowing banking behemoths such as JPMorgan and Goldman Sachs to generate new shares in the fund using cash instead of cryptocurrencies.

The innovative redemption mechanism, termed “prepay,” grants authorized participants (APs) from central banks an avenue to circumvent constraints barring direct holding of Bitcoin or cryptocurrencies on their balance sheets. APs can now transfer cash to a broker-dealer, which converts it into Bitcoin, enabling their participation in the fund. Notably, Coinbase Custody stands as the designated custody provider for the ETF in BlackRock’s scenario.

In related market updates, the global cryptocurrency capitalization currently stands at $1.55 trillion, marking a 2.20% decrease within the last day. Over the preceding 24 hours, the total crypto market volume amounted to $69.02 billion, indicating a decline of 13.42%. The decentralized finance sector accounts for $7.61 billion, constituting 11.03% of the total crypto market 24-hour volume. Furthermore, the importance of all stablecoins now stands at $61.73 billion, representing 89.45% of the entire crypto market’s 24-hour volume.
