Tech behemoth Apple has approved Axie Infinity non-fungible token games to launch on its App Store. ‘Axie Infinity: Origins’ will be available on Apple’s mobile application marketplace in several Latin America and Southeast Asia countries.

Apple Lists Axie Infinity On App Store

In a May 17 site publication, Sky Mavis, the web3 startup behind the popular Axie Infinity NFT game, confirmed securing approval to list its NFT game on App Store. Users can now download the Axie Infinity NFT game using their iPhone handsets.

Launched in 2018, Axie Infinity is a non-fungible token-based online video game that lets users compete and earn some revenue. The play-to-earn game rose to fame during the pandemic after providing an alternative trick of making money at home.

Since then, Axie Infinity has been the top play-to-earn gameplay globally until April 2022, when it suffered the record-breaking hack. At the time, hackers breached its ‘Ronin Bridge’ and stole over $680 million.

Axie Infinity P2E Game Gets Back To Life

Axie Infinity has finally gotten out of the dust and is now better and improved. The incarnated game will allow gamers to battle one another while collecting and trading non-fungible tokens (NFTs) or earning crypto rewards.

The game’s creator, Sky Mavis, believes Apple’s brave move to allow users to download and play the ‘Axie Infinity: Origins’ NFT game on the iPhone is a remarkable milestone towards wider NFT and metaverse gaming adoption.

It’s worth noting that Apple has recently made it difficult for companies who want to allow users of their smartphone applications to buy, sell and trade NFTs. Last year, the tech giant imposed a 30% tax on NFT trading on its App Store.

In an exclusive interview with The Block, Jeffrey Zirlin, the co-founder of Sky Mavis, has said that the limited rollout of the Axie Infinity game on the App Store will help the company “gather data around retention rates” before an eventual global launch.

In the meantime, the Axie Infinity game app is available on the App Store in several countries throughout Latin America and South Asia. Some include Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Mexico, Venezuela, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam. The game is also available on Google Play Store and Mavis Hub in many parts of the world.
