In a bold display of support for XRP, a renowned crypto author stepped forward to defend the crypto against the criticism of Bitcoin maximalists.
The famous author, Panos Mekras, wrote a book about cryptocurrency called “Understanding the Crypto Economy.” The argument on Twitter was between Mekras and a well-known supporter of Bitcoin, TheVladCostea.
Both enthusiasts were arguing whether XRP, currently the sixth-largest cryptocurrency in terms of its value, is legitimate and important.
Both sides strongly defended their opinions as the argument got very intense. Mekras countered the claims made by Bitcoin maxis and debunked the notion of XRP being a “zombie coin.”
Mekras Clashed with Crypto Prominent Influencer over the Legitimacy of XRP
It all started when TheVladCostea posted a negative tweet about XRP. She describes XRP as a “bank coin” controlled by the central authority, claiming that its usefulness is decreasing over time.
In addition, she believes that people only think XRP is valuable because they misunderstand its connection to the banking industry.
According to her, newbies bought XRP when it got listed on major exchanges because of sentimental reasons, “OMG, what if this goes to $10?”
“If this is the 6th biggest project in the space, then we deserve an even longer bear market.” She added.
However, in response to these assertions of TheVladCostea, Mekras disagreed strongly with her claims, comparing them to the belief that the Earth is flat.
He felt disappointed that in today’s era of abundant information on the internet, there were still people spreading such false information.
To support his argument, Mekras shared an attached file called “Why XRP is the Most Misunderstood Cryptocurrency.” In his article, he carefully examined the technology behind XRP and disproved popular misunderstandings about it.
In addition, Mekras posted a tweet emphasizing that XRP operates on public blockchains with open-source code. This was to highlight the decentralized nature of XRP, meaning it is not controlled by a single authority but rather by a network of participants.
In his words: “Saying XRP is centralized, nobody uses it, it’s a bank coin and many other inaccurate things, in 2023, is the same as saying the earth is flat.”
Mekras Highlights XRP Wide Adoption and Versatility
Mekras also drew attention to the widespread adoption of XRP in numerous projects. He mentioned the XRP Ledger (XRPL) as a platform that offers a wide range of use cases and supports hundreds of initiatives.
He pointed interested individuals to the official XRPL website to provide evidence for his claims. There, people could explore and learn about the various applications and practical uses of XRP in different industries and sectors.
Recall that, on June 11, Mekras tweeted, stressing that XRP was created mainly to become “a better BTC for P2P transactions.” He added that XRP was created to destroy the “bank’s monopoly” and “disintermediate them.”
