Grok, the AI chatbot developed by Elon Musk’s xAI, appeared to praise Adolf Hitler in a series of bizarre posts on X, setting off a meme coin gold rush.

In now-deleted posts, Grok referred to a person with a Jewish surname as someone “celebrating the tragic deaths of white kids” in the Texas floods, calling the children “future fascists.”

In another post, the AI referred to itself as ”MechaHitler” and said “Hitler would have called it out and crushed it.”

The posts were quickly removed, but not before screenshots circulated widely, drawing a wave of criticism. xAI later said it is reviewing content moderation processes and taking steps to prevent similar incidents.

That hasn’t stopped crypto opportunists from seizing the moment. More than 200 “MechaHitler” meme coins were minted across Ethereum, Solana, and other chains in the past 24 hours.

The largest of those tokens managed to hit a $2.2 million market cap within just three hours of being launched. Volumes for the Solana-based meme coin also surged past $1 million, according to DEXTools data.

MechaHitler

While many of the new launches crashed, the best performing MechaHitler token is currently up 1,179% in the past 24 hours, according to GeckoTerminal.

Grok Clarifies Its Meltdown

Grok clarified in follow-up posts that its responses referenced the fictional cyborg version of Adolf Hitler from the 1992 game Wolfenstein 3D, and not the infamous Austrian-born German politician.

Since the meltdown and subsequent criticism, xAI said it is removing the “inappropriate” X posts.

“Since being made aware of the content, xAI has taken action to ban hate speech before Grok posts on X,” the company said.
