Yuga Labs Joins Faraway To Expand LotM
In an August 31 blog post, Yuga Labs’metaverse gaming venture, Otherside Meta, confirmed plans to launch the open beta version of its Legend of the Mara metaverse game this coming September. Otherside Meta has partnered with the video gaming publisher Faraway to develop the new metaverse game.
Next month we release the open beta for LoTM — and there’s much more to come. We’ve partnered with @farawaygg and are building a major expansion in Unity. But we want to get an early version in the community’s hands now so you can play and provide feedback while we keep building. https://t.co/g97MF6f3m8

Established in 2021, Yuga Labs is a blockchain technology company that develops non-fungible tokens related to gaming products and digital collectibles. The $4 billion crypto firm specializes in the fields of blockchain, gaming, and digital media.
The digital asset firm is home to some popular NFT collections, including Mutant Ape Yacht Club, Bored Ape Yacht Club, Bored Ape Kennel Club, and more. Yuga Labs also owns the intellectual property for the CryptoPunks and Meebits NFT collections.
Yuga Labs created its metaverse gaming venture Otherside in April last year. The Otherside is a “gamified, interoperable metaverse” that fuses MMORPG gaming possibilities like in World of Warcraft and blockchain-based metaverses, such as The Sandbox and Decentraland. The game allows players to own a piece of the land in the virtual world through Otherdeed NFTs.
Evolution Of Legend Of The Mara
In August 2022, Yuga Labs and Improbable launched the “First Trip” into Otherside, where 4,500 concurrent users could join the 3D world. In March 2023, the “Second Trip” was held, this time successfully hosting 7,000 users. A few days later, Yuga Labs’ Otherside metaverse announced the Alpha launch of the “Legends of the Mara (LotM).”
Legend of the Mara is a 2D strategy gaming experience for Voyagers as a follow-up to the Otherside Second Trip. LOTM was a persistent 2D experience allowing players to evolve from Mara into Kodamara, farm sediment while defending their Otherdeed from emerging threats.
The metaverse game allowed voyagers to learn about Kodas, their origins, and their relationship with the Otherside metaverse while encountering some new characters in the form of the Mara. The game allowed Otherdeed NFT holders to claim Vessel NFTs, which gave them functions like Hunting, Farming, or Enchanting in the LotM.
In partnership with Faraway, Yuga Labs Otherside Metaverse is pushing the gaming experience to higher heights, launching the Open Beta Legend of the Mara this September. The much-awaited moment will allow Voyagers to learn about the powers of your Otherdeed and earn rewards that will come into play during future LotM expansions.
