The rate at which institutions, businesses and individuals are diving into the global non-fungible token market has started to skyrocket again in 2025. Despite several previously renowned non-fungible token projects quitting and exiting the NFT market, more new institutions have started the process of exploring the possibilities tied to non-fungible token technology. Egyptian Al Ahly football club is the latest institution to announce its foray into the NFT space.

The international football governing body, FIFA, launched its NFT marketplace FIFA Collect in partnership with blockchain software firm Modex in 2023. The platform digitizes iconic football-related moments and items belonging to football clubs and national teams. These digitized art forms are then put on sale on FIFA Collect for football lovers to purchase, own and trade iconic historical pieces from the football teams they love.
At its launch in 2023, FIFA launched some of its NFT collections on the Polygon, an Ethereum scaling network. It launched those NFT collections on the OpenSea NFT market platform. At the moment, the FIFA Collect platform is hosted on the Algorand blockchain. Nonetheless, FIFA recently announced plans to migrate to its own Ethereum-compatible FIFA blockchain before the end of this month.
Under the new integration, the Egyptian Al Ahly anticipates leveraging the FIFA+ Collect NFT functionality to offer digital collectibles to its fans as part of efforts to grow its digital presence and fan engagement. While commenting about the FIFA+ Collect and Al Ahly football club (FC) collaboration, Amir Tawfik, the Chief Executive Officer of Egypt’s Al Ahly FC, remarked:
“Our collaboration with FIFA Collect … marks a pivotal step in our digital transformation strategy by introducing a new dimension of fan engagement that is immersive, innovative, and global. Through FIFA Collect, fans can own a piece of Al Ahly history, access exclusive digital collectibles, and celebrate key moments from the club’s iconic journey — all in a way that feels personal and modern.”
