Solana meme coin generator Pump.fun disabled its live streaming function indefinitely yesterday following a wave of abusive content on the platform.
Initially rolled out earlier this year, live-streaming was added to let users promote their newly-launched meme coins. But creators took advantage of Pump.fun’s overwhelmed moderation to deploy what Beau on X called ”absolutely heinous” purposes just to boost their cryptos’ valuations.
“Hey @pumpdotfun there is currently someone using your livestreams to threaten to hang themselves if the coin does not reach a set marketcap,” Beau said. “Absolutely heinous and it needs to come down + see if you can get them help. Shut down the livestream feature. This is out of control.”
Reports of child abuse, bestiality and even suicide threats have all been made.
Pump.Fun Says Its Moderation Infrastructure Needs Upgrade To Cope
Pump.fun has been one of this year’s success stories due to the meme coin craze in the last few months. Given how easy and affordable the platform makes it to launch a token, many developers have flocked to the platform for their piece of the meme coin mania pie.
with the live streaming meta on in full force there have been many people that came forward with some very legitimate concerns regarding what content that is allowed on the platform
let me make it abundantly clear: we actively moderate illicit content on the site. that includes…

In response to the recent reports of abusive content, Pump.fun said in a community notice that it will be “pausing the live streaming functionality on the site for an indefinite period of time.”
The team acknowledged that the “heightened levels of activity” on the platform have made it difficult for Pump.fun’s moderation infrastructure to keep up. Live streaming on Pump.fun will be reactivated once the moderation infrastructure has been upgraded to deal with the surge in activity, the team said.
Expert Says Pump.Fun May Face Criminal Charges
Pump.fun has managed to stay out of regulatory purview despite several token creators using the platform to launch scam cryptos or perform rug pulls. The abusive content that has made its way onto the platform recently could, however, attract the attention of authorities, Yuriy Brisov, a partner at Digital and Analogue Partners, told Cointelegraph.
“It’s a legitimate reason for a criminal investigation and civil lawsuits,” he said.
