Set to debut later this year, the stablecoin will be deployed on the XRP Ledger and the Ethereum blockchain.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Ripple CEO said that the launch of a stablecoin is the next natural step for the crypto company as it aims to win a share of the booming stablecoin market that is projected to soar past $2.8 trillion by 2028.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">1\/ The stablecoin market is booming &ndash; around $150B today, and projected to soar past $2.8T by 2028. Many question whether the company actually holds the required amount of collateral to back its digital dollar.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Speculation around Tether&rsquo;s reserves reached a climax when the Commodity Futures Trading Commission said the company &ldquo;misrepresented to customers&rdquo; its holdings. Court findings revealed that Tether held enough fiat to back &ldquo;only 27.6% of the days&rdquo; between the middle of 2016 and early 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tether subsequently paid a $41 million <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cftc.gov\/PressRoom\/PressReleases\/8450-21\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">fine<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It started releasing quarterly third party audits of its reserves over the past couple of years as well.&nbsp; With doubts about the company&rsquo;s reserves still present, concerns of USDT&rsquo;s role in terrorism financing have also started to emerge.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis and Representative French Hill sent a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/punchbowl.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/Letter-to-AG-Garland-Final.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">letter<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in October 2023 urging the Department of Justice (DoJ) to perform an investigation into Tether and Binance.
