Currently, the attacker holds a total of $22.7 million in various cryptocurrencies including 13,100 ETH and 1.1 million DAI tokens, Peckshield said.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Update: The phisher transferred 2,000 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=%24ETH&amp;src=ctag&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">$ETH<\/a> ($3.1M) to a new address 0x71C8&hellip;790e, ~600 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=%24ETH&amp;src=ctag&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">$ETH<\/a> was sent to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/TornadoCash?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#TornadoCash<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/IkqASk5pvi\">pic.twitter.com\/IkqASk5pvi<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; PeckShieldAlert (@PeckShieldAlert) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PeckShieldAlert\/status\/1701409105934794814?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 12, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Peckshield <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PeckShieldAlert\/status\/1699620018739466632?s=20\"><span class=\"s2\">said<\/span><\/a> on Sept. 7 that the attacker exchanged the stolen assets for 13,785 ETH and 1.64 million Dai (DAI), a stablecoin valued at $1.00. A considerable portion of the acquired DAI has already been moved to FixedFloat, a fully automated cryptocurrency exchange.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Legal Challenge and Sanctions<\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Tornado Cash was <a href=\"https:\/\/insidebitcoins.com\/news\/us-charges-tornado-cash-developers-with-laundering-1-billion-of-crypto-assets-sanctions-violations\"><span class=\"s2\">sanctioned<\/span><\/a> in August last year for its alleged involvement in money laundering, a practice it was accused of since its establishment in 2019. The Justice Department says it was responsible for enabling over $1 billion in money laundering activities, with a significant portion of these funds believed to have benefitted North Korea&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/insidebitcoins.com\/news\/atomic-wallet-hack-connected-to-north-korean-hacking-group-lazurus\"><span class=\"s2\">Lazarus Group.<\/span><\/a>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">U.S. authorities say that the Lazarus Group&rsquo;s illicit actions have provided financial support to North Korea&rsquo;s nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Last month, a court decision in the US reaffirmed sanctions against Tornado Cash. Six Tornado Cash users had challenged these sanctions, but the court upheld the ban, ruling that the plaintiffs&rsquo; claims of constitutional violations were not compelling enough.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Tornado Cash&rsquo;s Private Ethereum Transactions<\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Tornado Cash provides a platform for users to make their Ethereum transactions more private. This is done by combining their funds with those from other cryptocurrency holdings. This process effectively hides the origin of a cryptocurrency transaction, making Tornado Cash an attractive option for cybercriminals seeking to convert their ill-gotten gains.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3
