Crypto miners are getting a new lobby group to help advance their interests among US policymakers as the nation seeks to establish a comprehensive regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies.

The Digital Energy Council (DEC) was launched on Aug. 15 with the aim of educating policymakers and key stakeholders and removing any misconceptions about crypto mining, the body says on its website.

The Washington-based Digital Energy Council is the first member association that exclusively focuses on the intersection of energy security and digital asset mining. It will focus on three critical areas: US energy development, national security, and economic advancement, says its website.

Founder and President Tom Mapes previously served at the Department of Energy as the chief of staff for international affairs, where he was responsible for international energy coordination throughout the US government.

Prior to that, he spent several years on Capitol Hill serving several energy-focused members of Congress and also led the first mining-focused government advocacy campaign at the federal level in the US.
