NEW YORK (InsideBitcoins) — As the regulatory landscape for cryptocurrencies gets more complicated to navigate, Coinbase, the San Francisco bitcoin wallet and exchange, has decided to get some Washington-savvy assistance.
The firm has hired John G. Collins to serve as the head of government affairs. Collins has served as a senior adviser to the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, where “he handled critical infrastructure security and emerging policy issues related to digital currencies,” a Coinbase release says.
“John brings invaluable expertise on regulatory and compliance issues related to bitcoin, and a wealth of experience at the U.S. Capitol,” Coinbase said in blog post this morning. “John will engage with and educate public officials and lawmakers about bitcoin, and help drive an informed discussion around public policy that protects consumers without stifling the incredible innovation we’re seeing at all levels across the bitcoin community.”
