NEW YORK (InsideBitcoins) — Here are the latest items crossing our news desk from the Bitcoin and cryptocurrency industry.
California-based shipping service Shipito.com announced today they will now be accepting bitcoin for their package forwarding services. Primarily targeted to overseas shoppers looking to purchase items from U.S. based sellers, Shipito says it processes tens of thousands of packages each month and the payment option will be welcomed by its international customers.
“Shipito.com is a perfect fit for bitcoin as both help lower the costs for various products on a global basis, giving international customers access to top e-commerce outlets,” said Tony Gallippi, executive chairman of BitPay, the bitcoin payment processor chosen to execute transactions for Shipito.
“We are looking forward to offering bitcoin as a payment option,” said John Vanhara, CEO of Shipito.com, in a statement. “Our collaboration with BitPay is really about doing what’s best for our customers. This move will allow us to ship to areas where banking is complicated and costly. We look forward to serving an expanding customer base.”
The Bitcoin documentary that has made the rounds of film festivals and industry conferences may finally be coming to a theater – or streaming device – near you. “The Rise and Rise of Bitcoin” will be released in select cities nationwide next month, including New York and Los Angeles, beginning October 3rd. Video on demand (VOD) will release on October 10th.
The film follows entrepreneurs and fledgling startups as well as documents the bitcoin mining market and “various subcultures within the Bitcoin community.”
Directed by Nicholas Mross and produced by Ben Bledsoe, Nicholas Mross and Patrick Lope, the film was co-produced by Ashley Mross and Daniel Mross. Interestingly, film distributor Gravitas Ventures purchased the film in bitcoins.
